By the age of 12, his passion for music led him and his friends to form a band called “The Slick Six,” which performed at the Kentucky State Fair. He also had a love for basketball, earning the trophy for best free throw percentage on the varsity boys’ team in 1985.
In 1991, Scott joined the Navy as a Yeoman flag writer. He became a “shellback” after crossing the equator on the USS Nimitz. Following two years at a remote station in Australia, he was assigned to the Chief of Naval Operations Navy Command Center at the Pentagon. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
It was at the Pentagon that he met his wife, Shelley. They initially settled in Alexandria, VA, but moved to King George in 2007 when Scott’s office, the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Agency, relocated to Dahlgren Naval Base.
After leaving the Navy, Scott worked for the Department of Defense and various defense contractors, ultimately serving as a Program Analyst with the Defense Logistics Agency. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to help others, whether it was assisting with job searches, writing résumés, or helping with bills. This dedication reflected his character.
In 2010, Scott converted to Catholicism and became an active member of the Knights of Columbus, served as an usher at Mass, and held a deep devotion to St. Joseph. He was often found listening to The Eagles or Daft Punk, dancing as if it were 1987. He eagerly anticipated the fall season, never missing a game for the Louisville Cardinals or Baltimore Ravens, and cherished Saturday morning “Game Day.”
Scott was a father figure to many and a friend to even more. He would readily give the shirt off his back or share food from his plate with family and friends. He enjoyed tossing a Frisbee, playing poker and board games, and was a devoted movie enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Shelley (Lyle); son Tommy; brother Mark (Sandy) Tucker; aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rocky Tucker, and sisters Terra (Tucker) Chism, Jennifer (Buckles) Micheals, and Jacqueline (Buckles) Keith.
