Larry Ray Martin, 84, of King George, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2024, with his beloved wife Theresa “Terry” Buckley Martin and daughter Iva Marie Martin at his side. He married Terry on February 13, 1960; over the years they complemented each other despite, or perhaps because of, many trials. Their first daughter, Joan, was born in 1961; they adopted a son, Ray, in 1967; and they were surprised by the arrival of their daughter Iva in 1975. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who lived by his oath of “in sickness and in health, ‘til death do us part.” Larry had an impeccable work ethic and was a solid provider for his family as a lineman for Bell Atlantic  (now Verizon) until his well-earned retirement in 1994. He bloomed in retirement and became an avid cat fan, which was a good thing considering the number of cats who always seem to adopt his family. He was a jack-of-all-trades who amazed his family with his abilities at fixing cars, doing home repairs and improvements – really, anything that needed to be made or fixed. He loved old cars, especially Fords, and restoring many, bring new life back to rust and metal; his last restoration was a 1954 Ford and its own retro garage, which he also built and furnished. Larry had a great sense of humor and enjoyed watching slapstick comedy, yet he could not stand seeing anyone or anything in pain. It is impossible to distill into just a few words a good, full, and productive life – but at least let it be said that he will be greatly missed. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lottie Martin; sister, Jane Jennison; daughter, Joan Martin Morris and her husband, Jeff Morris; and grandson, Connall Mullins. In additions to Terry, his wife of 64 years, and his daughter Iva, those left to cherish his memory include son Ray Martin; brother Jimmy Martin; grandchildren Steve (Christine), Amanda, Stephanie (Marty), Aedon, and Shannon; great-grandchildren Cian, Phillip (Kat), Erika, Michael, Erik, Jeremy Alexis, Landon, and Kinsley; great-great-grandson Patrick. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, in-laws, lifelong friends, and his cherished cat Tiege, who never left his side. A funeral Mass will be held at 2PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family invites all to join them in a reception at their home at the conclusion of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Avenue, Suite 401, Fredericksburg, VA 22041 or online at https://www.marywashingtonhealthcare.com/foundations/donate-to-mary-washington-hospital-foundation/.
