Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Robert; three children Mark Wernsman and wife Cheryl, Bobbi Page and husband Chris, and youngest son Matthew Wernsman; two brothers, Richard and Eugene Breheim; one sister Nancy Wilke; and four grandchildren Lydia, Celia, Brett and Sofia Page.
Darlene was born September 18, 1940, in Wood County Wisconsin, the daughter of Norma Stoneburg and Albert Breheim. She was raised on a dairy farm and attended Stout State College, where she majored in Home Economics. She met her future husband, Bob Wernsman, on a blind date at Stout. Darlene and Bob were married in Charleston, South Carolina in 1964 and she became a Navy wife and homemaker. Darlene learned that frequent moves (19 in 21 years!) were part of the game. She traveled throughout the United States and the world. The family lived in Guam, and she travelled to Korea, Japan, Alaska, Portugal, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Australia.
Darlene was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in King George, Virginia. She loved crafts, sewing, crocheting, baking, and fishing trips with her husband. Darlene was a fierce board game player and was an integral participant in the family’s beekeeping business, and frequently could be found in the public schools, teaching beekeeping to children. She mastered baking bread and decorating cakes and almost always had a sewing project or twelve in the works. Darlene enjoyed her volunteer work at the church, with AARP, and the American Legion. She was a volunteer EMT with the Dahlgren rescue squad, Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout troop leader, Virginia Extension Agency and the uniform mom for North Stafford’s marching band for years. Whenever someone needed help, Darlene would show up and give her all.
