James Rollin Morgan Jr., born December 21, 1939, (85yrs) left us peacefully and quietly with his wife of over 63 years, Carrol Elmira Keys Morgan, by his side. Jim was born in King George County where he spent his life serving his community.

Jim graduated from King George High School. Jim retired from his first career at the Department of Defense/ Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren. Jim served the King George community his entire life in several programs, but most notably as Scout Master of King George Troop 191, King George Explorer Post 191, a Virginia Firearms President/Coach, President of the King George Shooting Association (which he organized and chartered), Coach to the KGSA Junior Air Rifle and Small Bore Rifle Program, Coach to the Virginia State Highpower Rifle Team of the VFEMI, Coach/Leader to the KG 4H Club and coached the King George High School NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps). When not volunteering with youth programs, you could find Jim volunteering on the King George Rescue Squad. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #89, The Knights Templar of Virginia, a Master Mason of Colonial Beach Lodge #199, and Hudson-Morris Masonic Lodge #80. He received the Lodge’s Outstanding Citizens Award in addition to the King George Sherriff’s Office Continuing Support Award. Jim was a founding sponsor for the National Museum of the United States Army and supporter of Virginia Deer Hunters Association. Jim’s contributions to King George County were recently recognized this past October as Fall Festival Guest of Honor, alongside his wife, Carrol.

From his earliest days as a scout master to the final days with youth 4H shooters, Jim was happiest of all serving. Those who spent time with Jim undoubtedly had conversations including his experiences “in the woods,” camping, caving, canoeing, hunting, collecting, playing cards, coaching, and traveling the world to complete work missions. We should all be so blessed to have been ‘’kissed by an elk.”

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James Rollin “Happy” Morgan Sr. and Slydelle Stephens Morgan; his son, James Rollin “Buddy” Morgan III; his sisters, Judith Rose (Chester “Mickey”) and Sarah Lewis (C.W.); and brother in law MSgt (Ret) Stanley Keys (Anne).

He is survived by his wife, Carrol Elmira Keys Morgan; daughters, Catherine M. Washington (COL(Ret) Tom) and S. Christine Morgan; grandchildren, Casandra W. Philipson (Noah), Thomas U. Washington Jr (Ashleigh) and Elizabeth M. Washington (fiancé, Kyle Jones); brother-in-law, Van Keys (Connie); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He leaves a family of friends made over his lifetime, near and far. Carrol shares that Jim was a shining example of a life lived in faith, love, and devotion. As her best friend, Jim was the happiest person to ever know. Until we meet again, he is forever loved.
