Born on January 29, 1931 on her Grandfather’s farm near Mattox Creek. Nancy was an longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1948 going on to study at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. From early childhood Nancy had a passion to become an artist, and had a great interest in teaching others. She found her life’s work in teaching for the Prince Georges County School System for over 20 years, retiring in 1999. She was predeceased by her mother, Louise Groves Fisher; her father, Joseph Thomas Harris; her sister Louise Josephine Harris Townsend, brother Donald Wayne Fisher, and daughter Barbara Ellen Edelen Weller. She is survived by her brother Gerald Wayne Fisher, her son Joseph Edward Edelen Jr. (Lin); five grandchildren: Gregory Weller (Shannon), Eric Weller (Sally), Sean Edelen (Cheryl), Jonathan Edelen and Alyssa Donner Edelen (Andrew); and seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her many students and helping those less fortunate; her quick wit and gift for storytelling, her boundless creativity and artistry, and, above all, her selfless dedication to her children and grandchildren. Nancy’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her teaching, the joy she brought through her humor and tales, and the love she poured into her family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and cherished her. A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
