Goldie is preceded in death by the love of her life, Sidney Alton Bottoms; her first born child, Bonnie Lee Rash Rainey; and her youngest child, Sandra (Sandy) Kay Bottoms Wimer.
Goldie is survived by her middle daughter, Linda Arlene Rash; her son-in-law, Ted Lee Wimer; two granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Wimer and Shelby Renee Wimer; her grandson-in-law, John Doornbos, two great grandchildren, Brentley Lee Doornbos and Adalynn Grace Doornbos, and her sister-in-law who she loved like a sister, Annie Mae Lipscomb Price.
On April 20, 1931, Charlie and Sallie Price (nee Daniel) welcomed Goldie into this world. She was one of 9 children. Her sister Marie died as a toddler and her sister Bonnie died in infancy. Goldie was not given a middle name so she chose one herself — “Marie.”
Goldie was 14 when she met her first husband, Lee Roy Rash. One week after her 15th birthday they were married. 16 months later Goldie gave birth to her first daughter who she named “Bonnie.” Goldie showed at a very young age how loving, compassionate and thoughtful she was.
No parent wants their child to die before them but that’s exactly what fate had in store for Goldie. Bonnie’s death was swift and came without warning but Sandy’s death was a long battle. Goldie could not bear to see Sandy suffer and said numerous times “Why couldn’t it be me? I’ve lived my life. I’d gladly take her place.” Although Goldie was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, she had to say goodbye to another beloved daughter.
After Bonnie’s death, Goldie sought out the comfort of God who guided her to Mountain View Baptist Church. As a member of that congregation, she drew strength from Pastor Keith Robinson. His love of God, reassuring words and kindness meant a great deal to her and enabled her to cope with the death of Sandy.
After working at a few diners, Goldie got a job at Handy-Dandy then Highs then hit the jackpot — Safeway! She was very proud of her 28 years there. One of her most prized possessions is a gold ring with the letter “S.” During her time there she was voted “Friendliest Cashier” and won a trip to the Bahamas!
