Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Arthur was a beloved member of his community, known for his vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served honorably for 6 years including two courageous tours in Vietnam as a Navy Seal with Seal Team 2. After his military service, Arthur embarked on a successful 25-year career at Bell Atlantic. Later, Arthur was a School Security Officer at Godwin Middle School within the Prince William Public Schools system for 14 years, where he was cherished by students and colleagues alike.
Arthur’s passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and motorcycle rider, always eager for adventure and the great outdoors. He traveled throughout the US hunting deer, bear, elk and antelope. Art also enjoyed traveling with his wife Denise including a South America/Antarctica cruise, a European River boat cruise, and various catamaran excursions in the Caribbean.
Throughout his life, Art shared his love for baseball and football by coaching middle school, Little League and Pee Wee teams, inspiring young athletes with his knowledge and enthusiasm. A true sports fan, Arthur never missed a game of the Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins), proudly supporting his favorite football team.
Arthur had a unique sense of humor, often sharing his quirky and inappropriate jokes that left everyone laughing. His warmth, wit, and zest for life made him a cherished friend and family member to all who knew him.
Arthur Hunt Buckner will be remembered for his remarkable service, professional achievements, and the joyful spirit he brought into every room. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
He is preceded in death by his parents Spencer and Gertrude Buckner and his brother Spencer Jr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Denise Buckner, his daughter Deanna (Omar) Marquez, 2 grandchildren and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22nd at Storke Funeral Home from 6pm – 8pm. A memorial service will occur on Thursday, January 23rd at 10:00am at Storke Funeral Home in King George, Virginia (11089 James Madison Pkwy, King George, VA 22485) followed by a burial with military orders at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia (18424 Joplin Road aka Route 619, Triangle, Virginia 22172) at 2:00pm. Quantico requires attendees for burial arrive by 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department (1697 Palmer Springs Road, Boydton, VA 23917), Southside Rescue Squad (P.O. Box 546, South Hill, VA 23970), and/or Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (3033 Wilson Blvd, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201) honoring Arthur’s generous and giving nature.
