Thelma Bruce Greenwood, 102, a resident of The Hermitage at Cedarfield since 1996. died January 7, 2025. Born in Bowling Green, Caroline County, Virginia she was the daughter of the late William Baynham and Linda Hicks Bruce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Douglas Bruce and Vernon M. Bruce, a grandson, Frederick R. Greenwood, III. She attended Pan American Business School and Richmond Professional, Institute of the College of William and Mary. She also attended Administrative and Fiscal Management Courses at University of Virginia and International Banking Courses in London and Zurich. She was employed at the US Civil Service 1941-War Department, working in Norfolk, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore prior to her employment in Richmond with the Virginia State Corporation Commission. In 1945. She retired in 1991 as Assistant Commissioner-Administration, Legislative and Finance, Bureau of Financial Institutions completing 50 years if Government Service, serving under Commissioners Logan r. Ritchie, Thomas D. Jones and Sidney A. Bailey. She is survived by her son, Frederick Ray Greenwood, Jr.; two nieces, Mary Ellen Cravotta and Michelle B. Sindelar; and two nephews, B. Douglas Bruce, Jr. and David C. Bruce. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Greenlawn Cemetery, 17623 Lakewood Road, Bowling Green, VA. 22427 with Rev. Mark Holland officiating
