Warren H. Ide Jr. Warren “Renny” Harper Ide, Jr. passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025. Renny was born on January 16, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Nancy Smoot Bivens Ide and Warren Harper Ide, Sr. He was a standout soccer, basketball and baseball player in high school in Sudbury, MA, and went on to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Shortly after graduation, Renny married Erica Ann Marsh Ide in September of 1970 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. After completing training and earning his wings as a Naval Flight Officer, Renny was assigned to VAQ-131, stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. He deployed to Southeast Asia aboard USS Enterprise and later USS Constellation, successfully completing 85 combat missions. His first VAQ-131 deployment was the second combat deployment of the EA-6B Prowler, and he flew the squadron’s first combat mission of that deployment. After serving on the Admiral’s staff in San Diego, CA, Renny returned to NAS Whidbey and joined VAQ-137. He went on to attend the US Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, and upon graduating, joined the Systems Engineering Test Directorate, becoming the Branch Head there. He then returned to USS Enterprise in Alameda, CA, where he was the ship’s aircraft handler.

Once again, he returned to NAS Whidbey as Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer of VAQ-133, and then went on to command VAQ-129. He graduated with his master’s degree from the US Naval War College, served as Commanding Officer of USS LaSalle during Operation Desert Storm, Commodore of Phibron One, and completed two tours at the Pentagon. His awards include the Legion of Merit (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) with combat V device for valor, Combat Action Ribbon, and numerous other unit and personal citations. He retired after 30 years at the rank of Captain, having served his country with honor and distinction every step of the way.

Renny was predeceased by his wife Erica Ann Marsh Ide, his daughter, Alexis Diane Ide Richter, his parents, and his sister, Patricia Elizabeth Ide Moss. Renny will be deeply missed by his surviving children, Peter (Catherine Ide), Elizabeth (Greg Niemann), and William (Christina Ide), grandchildren Jack, Andrew, Natalie, John, Juliana, and Bridget, sisters Melanie Ide Horris, Jeanne Ide Puddington, brothers George and Chris Ide, and his sister-in-law, Pati Marsh.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project. A funeral service will be held on July 29, 2025 at 10:45am at Old Post Chapel, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Burial immediately following at Arlington National Cemetery.

Funeral attendees 16 years of age and older must have a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, student ID, etc). If using a driver’s license, it must be a Real ID.

The Old Post Chapel service will be approximately 30 minutes long and then everyone will follow the funeral procession to the gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral attendees must have their own transportation or ride with another attendee as you will be driving from the Old Post Chapel to the gravesite location at Arlington National Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following the burial and details will be provided at the funeral service.
