Adele Fortune, affectionately known as Nana, entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 22, 1943, Adele was a beacon of strength and kindness, described by those who knew her as a beautiful warrior and an angel on earth. She devoted much of her time to loving and caring for her children and grandchildren, which remained her greatest joy. She also had a passion for cooking, which brought great delight to her family and friends.

Adele was preceded in death by a son Craig Fortune, Sr., parents John Rock, Sr. and Mary Fortune, siblings James M. Fortune, Shirley T. Fortune, Mable A. Fortune.

She leaves behind a loving family: husband Everett Fortune, Sr. of Milford, VA; sons Everette of Ruther Glen, VA; Jeffrey of Milford, VA; Timothy (Sandra) of Williamsburg, VA; daughters; Pamela Crecca (Tom) of Stafford, VA, Jennifer McDowney (Kent), of Glen Allen, VA. She is survived by the loves of her life; her first grandchild, Craig Fortune, Jr., who made her the proudest Nana ever, Joshua Fortune who she was so excited to watch play basketball, her first granddaughter, Skylar Fortune, who amazed her by flying airplanes, Kendal McDowney who she loved watching dance, Kylie McDowney who she loved cooking with and Jaxson McDowney, who was her whole heart; great-grandchildren Christian Fortune, Cassidy Fortune, and Cannon Fortune.

Adele served in her community as an employee of Caroline County Public Schools for over 25 years. She retired as a beloved Cafeteria Manager at Bowling Green Primary School. Adele was dedicated in her commitment to the practice of her faith in the Lord at New Hope Baptist Assembly where she found great comfort and joy in fellowship with her church family. Adele loved the Lord deeply, and she believed in His Love, Glory and Miracles until He called her Home! Adele’s deep love for children was evident throughout her life. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to her memorial page at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Adele’s legacy of unconditional love and support will forever be cherished by her family and all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Assembly, 1823 Crittendens Mill Rd. Tappahannock, VA 22560, from 3:00-5:00pm. God makes every person on purpose for a purpose. Nana fulfilled her purpose on earth that God intended for her and said it was time for her to come home.

As Nana would say it’s not Goodbye, it’s “Toodles!”

Visitation & Funeral Service Information

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Assembly, 1823 Crittendens Mill Rd. Tappahannock, VA 22560, from 3:00-5:00pm.
