Alice Turner Pratt Moter, 89, passed peacefully on March 18, 2025 with her family at her side at Poplar Grove Farm in Woodford, Virginia.
Alice was the daughter of Richard Turner Pratt Jr. and Frances Robinson Buckley Pratt and grew up on Camden Farm in Port Royal, Virginia. She was an avid historian and collector of Virginia and Chinese antiques. Alice gave generously of her time and talent to the Rappahannock Chapter of the Garden Club of Virginia and served as President. She opened both her Fredericksburg home and her Bowling Green home, Auburn on several occasions for Historic Garden Week. She had Auburn designated as a Virginia State Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames being of direct descent from Robert King Carter. Gardening was a passion for her and she won many awards for her flower arrangements. Alice loved animals, and had a penchant for rescuing any stray dog she saw on the side of the road. Her knowledge of Caroline County history and the history of the families living along the Rappahannock River will be sorely missed.
Alice is survived by her husband of 73 years, Dr. Lawrence Russell Cruise Moter. She leaves behind four children, Lawrence Russell Moter Jr. of Woodford, Virginia, Courtenay Tayloe Moter Khoury of Warrenville, South Carolina, Richard Turner Pratt Moter of Richmond, Virginia, and Elizabeth Robinson Moter Langevin of Highland Beach, Florida. Alice is survived by 3 grandchildren, Faith McFadden Moter of Woodford, Virginia, Philip Cruise Khoury of Darien, Connecticut, and Virginia Crump Khoury of Nevada City, California. She has one surviving sister, Robin Pratt Willis of Gainesville, Florida. Her other sister, Barbara Pratt Willis predeceased her.
