Mary C. St. Martin, cherished wife of Ronald C. St. Martin, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Mary graduated from Bishop Kenny High School. She then attended the University of South Carolina, where she earned a degree in education. She and Ron met at a party, and with love in the air, the pair married a few months later and began the traveling life of a military family. During their 58 years together, Ron and Mary lived and worked through the years with grace, friendship, loving communication, hand-holding, and embarrassing their kids by kissing in public.
When Mary left the world of teaching behind, she turned to the world of art, beginning with landscapes and larger than life flowers in watercolor. Her art evolved into abstract modern, and then moved to prints and collage. Throughout the years, Mary also wrote poetry, reflections of self, and studies in what determines the creative voice.
Along with her husband, Mary is survived by her daughter, Jenny Rebecca; her sister, Jane Sowerby (John); her niece, Sara Bagdadi (Jack); her nephew, Colby Sowerby; her brother, Frank Bellinger (Paige); her nieces, Trina Schull (Todd), Kris Walters, Kim Owens (Jerry), and her nephew, Ira Bellinger. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Nell and Ben Bellinger, and by her beloved son, Ronald Clayton ‘Clay’ St. Martin.
Service and visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Road, Vienna, Virginia, 22181, at 11:30 on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Mary’s burial will take place at a to-be-determined date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.
