Brenda Sue Laird, 77, a Colonial Beach native and longtime resident of Tangier Island, VA passed away on March 30, 2025. While home “on the island,” Brenda was known for making the absolute best crab cakes – so good they were a meal all on their own! She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a woman whose heart was always with her family.  She was a compassionate caregiver to countless others over the years who needed special attention in their senior years.  When back home in Colonial Beach, she cherished time spent with family and especially enjoyed antiquing with her sister Thelma.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Laird; parents, William & Virginia Dodd; son, Johnnie Cooper; sister, Thelma Lee; and nephew, Jimmy Lee.  She is also reunited in heaven with her grandmother with whom she had a special bond, Hattie Townsend.

Brenda is survived by her sons, Eddie Cooper (Andrea), Freddie Scott Laird, and Brent Laird; sister, Barbara Camp; brothers, William Dodd, Jimmy Dodd (Donna), and Gordon Dodd (Connie); grandchildren, Michelle, Keisha, Jayden, Nevaeh, and Ashton; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and her beloved Pekinese dog, Sadie.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Tangier, VA.
