Shirley Anne Compton went to join the angels in heaven on 8 April 2025. Leaving behind a daughter, Michele Fogg (Ricky) and a son, Alan Procter (Donna), two grandchildren, Jasmine (Josh) and Adam (Elizabeth) and their extended families. Predeceased by her parents, Anne (Rooney) and Allen (AD) Compton who were from St. Paul, VA and Coeburn, VA.   She was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia (Lyon Park/Clarendon). She attended Henry Clay Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Junior High and Washington-Lee High School. She worked for the DoD at Arlington Hall and later managed a key punch business.  She was a whiz on all the early computing machines such as key punch, card collators, etc. She moved to Colonial beach in 1977 where she held various waitress jobs which was her favorite since she always enjoyed working with the public and meeting new people. Many will remember her working at the Happy Clam. She briefly co-owned The Crab Shack located on the Point best known for her homemade crab chowder. She never met a stranger.  Later in life one of her favorite jobs was working for Med-Carry, driving seniors to various doctor appts etc. She was an excellent cook, she loved all kinds of music and played both the guitar and the piano. She loved doing puzzles especially the daily newspaper crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She also loved to play board games including Scrabble which was her favorite. She loved to tell jokes and tall tales. She loved to make people laugh. She was raised as a Methodist and read her Bible faithfully. One of her favorite preachers was Arnold Murray of The Shepherd’s Chapel. A funeral will be held on Sunday, April 13th at 3:00pm in the King George chapel of Storke Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service. Entombment, in Temple Hills Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia, will take place on Wednesday, April 16th at 2:00pm.   In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Shirley’s name to St Jude Children’s Hospital: www.stjude.org.

Visitation & Funeral Service Information

A funeral will be held on Sunday, April 13th at 3:00pm in the King George chapel of Storke Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

Entombment, in Temple Hills Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia, will take place on Wednesday, April 16th at 2:00pm.
