David W. Carter Sr., 83, of Bowling Green, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Born on January 9, 1942, in Caroline County, Virginia, David was a graduate of Union High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he built a life rooted in dedication to both his family and his community. He continued his commitment to service as a member of the Air National Guard, where he served faithfully until his retirement.
David worked as an electrician and appliance mechanic at Fort A.P. Hill, where he was respected for his skill, work ethic, and dependability until his retirement. He could build and repair just about anything, and he was especially well known throughout the community for fixing appliances. If something was broken, David could fix it.
A man of quiet humility, David enjoyed being outdoors and took great satisfaction in working with his hands. His dry wit and steady presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. He loved classic westerns, with Gunsmoke being a particular favorite.
Above all, David was a devoted and loving family man and dear friend, deeply cherished and profoundly missed. He was a selfless man who never hesitated to help a neighbor or lend a hand to someone in need. His life was a testament to hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering love for those around him.
He is survived by his four children: Bridgett Carter, David (Steph) Carter, Michael Carter, and Mark (Rhonda) Carter; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ethel W. Carter; his parents, Franklyn F. and Mary B. Carter; his brothers, Franklin Carter Jr., Wilbur “Keys” Carter, and Cornelius “Spot” Carter; and his sister, Joyce Carter-Kearse.
David’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he passed down, and the love he so freely gave.
