Lillie Mae Seal Farmer, 85, of Bowling Green passed away at her home on May 9, 2025. Lillie Mae was a special lady who was well respected in her community. She earned this reputation through decades of dedication to her family and her unmatched work ethic and desire for things to be just right.
Lillie Mae was born in Shumansville, and spent most of her life in Milford and Bowling Green. The eldest sibling of her family, she was a typical older sister who always did her best to keep her siblings in line. Despite the early loss of two of their brothers, she and her siblings remained best of friends all of their lives.
She shared her life with her beloved husband, “Junior” Arthur Farmer, who proceeded her in death. Lillie loved animals of all types, but especially her dogs, most recently Georgio, who was her faithful companion.
Lillie Mae was a devoted employee of Ukrop’s Supermarkets for almost twenty years, serving customers in the Ashland store with great pride. Upon her retirement she became a caregiver in the Bowling Green community and cared for a few special individuals as they aged.
Lillie Mae loved many things like her church, Calvary Baptist in Bowling Green, yard sales, and a meticulous yard, but above all else she loved her family. Rarely, until just a month or so before her death, did she miss family events, or perhaps one of her favorite things, the kids ball games. She always showed up for her family, for the big things and the small things.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George Clifton Seal, Sr. and Hortense Seal, her husband Arthur Farmer, and her brothers “Dukey” and Eddie Dean Seal and her sister, Margie Beasley.
She is survived by her children, Sterling “Snooks” Schoonover and his wife Carolyn, and Lynn Collier and her husband Aubrey. She was a beloved Nannie to her four granddaughters and truly loved her grandsons-in-law too; Whitney Watts (Jared), Morgan Schoonover (Bert), Tyler Dunnington (Devin) and Courtney Nice (Tyler). The true apples of her eye and little loves of her life were her seven great-grandchildren; Kennedy, Reese, Walker, Graham, Tessa Mae, Brooklyn Lily, and Hudson. Ms. Farmer is also survived by her bonus grandchildren, Andy & Morgan Shreve, Travis & Megan Shreve, and Kylee & Cris Lorenzen and bonus great-grandchildren Parker, Ella, and Cru. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Ann Lloyd (Raymond) and brother “Mann” Seal, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, on Friday, May 16 at 1:00pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm and burial at Lakewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Humane Society of Caroline County, or Calvary Baptist Church, Bowling Green.
