Ruby Lipscomb Shook, 95, of Bowling Green, VA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 10, 2025.
Ruby loved the Lord with all her heart and was always witnessing to others, asking if they knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Even in the hospital, when she was feeling her worse, she would ask the nurses if they knew Jesus. She was always praying for her children and their families; she wanted them to be saved and join her in Heaven.
A long-time member of Ashland Church of God in Ashland, VA, she was loved by her church family. She taught Sunday School for several years to the younger children. When driving became too difficult for her, she joined The Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Woodford, VA where she attended until she was no longer able.
Ruby had an incredibly special relationship with her sister Annie Price. They lived close to each other and spent almost every day together. When they could not be together, they would talk on the phone a few times a day. This continued until her health began to fail in February 2024. At that time, she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Glen Allen, VA. They continued their close relationship with phone calls and visits whenever they could.
Although she held many jobs, she was also a caregiver to some of the ladies in her community. Ruby worked several seasons at Kings Dominion with her sister, Merle Beazley, in the wardrobe department. She really enjoyed her time there with her sister. She and Merle were known to family and friends as “the bookends” because you never saw one without the other.
Ruby was proceeded in death by her parents, Nevel and Francis Lipscomb; three brothers, Clyde, Pleasant and Lewis; two sisters, Nellie Shook and Merle Beazley; and a baby daughter.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her devoted daughter and caregiver, Joyce (Leon) James: sons, Clarence (Sue) Shook, Johnny and Tony Shook; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren: Two sisters, Annie Price and Helen Edwards; One brother, Joe (Shirley) Lipscomb and numerous friends and her beloved church family.
The family will receive friends 10:00 am Friday, May 16th at The Full Gospel Church, 8488 Paige Rd Woodford, VA 22580. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery Bowling Green, VA 22427.
