Marjorie Timberlake Apperson, 100 (9 days short of 101), of Woodford, Va., transitioned to her heavenly residence Thursday, May 15, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Logan Apperson and her mother Lula Poore Timberlake and father Herbert A. Timberlake.
Marjorie was born and grew up on a farm in Louisa, Va. Upon graduation, she attended Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond, Va. She met her husband while working as a secretary at First Baptist Church in Richmond. While raising her 2 children in Roanoke, Marjorie served as a girl scout leader and a Sunday school teacher in their church for many years. She volunteered as a docent at the Roanoke Fine Arts Center and was a member of the Roanoke chapter of the DAR. Later, she went back to work at the CMMA Credit bureau in Roanoke. After retirement, her husband and she moved to Bowling Green to be near to her grandchildren. During this time, she also volunteered at the Caroline County Literacy Council.
Marjorie lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the last 12 years of her life, enjoying and loving being with her family. Her deepest passion was her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, appreciating the daily devotions and Bible readings with her daughter and caregivers all the way to her final days. Even with the loss of vision and hearing loss, Marjorie remained very grateful for all things expressing that daily.
She is survived by her daughter Ellen Mandell (Steve) and son, Charles B. Apperson (Ruriko), three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hatton(Kyle), Christopher Mandell (Ashley), and Tabitha Cooke (Joshua), and eight great-grandchildren.
Marjorie’s family especially want to thank Marjorie’s good friend and caregiver, Bonnie Ketterman, who so willingly helped her, along with her wonderful caregivers, Gloria, Debra and Sherri. The family also was very appreciative of the kind and sensitive supportive care provided by Mary Washington Hospice services, and especially Debra her CNA.
