Valerie Ann Davis, affectionately called “Val” the daughter of Herbert Byron Brown and the late Barbara Ann Abney Brown, was the youngest of three children. She was born on January 14,1963 at West Jersey Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. She peacefully transitioned this life at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on May 29, 2025.

Valerie accepted Christ as her Lord and savior early in life and was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church, King George, Virginia. Valerie was truly a woman of faith and found much comfort, joy, and peace when she attended Sunday service.

Valerie received her education in the District of Columbia and Maryland public school systems. She was a proud graduate of Central High School, Suitland, MD.   After graduating she married Charles Elwood Davis (who preceded her). From this union, two daughters were born, Tyana and Monique.

Valerie was employed at NSWC – Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia for over 30 years as a contractor. Her last contract was with Melwood Inc, Rockville, Maryland. She was a devoted employee, took her job seriously and well known by many employees at NSWC.

In her leisure time, Valerie loved listening to “oldies” music, eating Alaskan Crab legs, and “retail therapy” shopping! She found much happiness in spending quality time with the love of her life, Tim. They loved taking road trips, relaxing at home and eating at various restaurants, and frequently ate at Cracker Barrel. Valerie’s favorite football team was of course, the Washington Commanders.

Valerie loved and cared for each of her grandchildren dearly. She loved the Christmas holiday and made sure that Christmas decorations were in place every year. She also had a very close bond with her oldest grandchild, Amari and they would occasionally have a “Mari and Nanny Day” to include shopping and eating.

Valerie is survived by her father Herbert Byron Brown; one sister Deborah Davis (Charles); one brother; Herbert Duane Brown, two daughters; Tyana Nichole Brown and Monique Davis (Charles “CJ” Bradley); grandchildren Amari, K’Lynn, Jai’cion, Destinee, and Julian and one great grandson; Ozman, mother-in-law; Evelyn McDowney, brother-in-law; Vernon Davis (Marilyn), two sister-in-laws; Melinda Gray, Sharon Johnson (Charles), a special cousin Samantha Campbell; the love of her life for 15 years, Timothy “Tim” Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
