Norman L. Long, 80, of Caroline County passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June
24, 2025 at his home, surrounded by loving family.

Norman was born October 23, 1944 in Shropshire England. His father was a US Army
soldier and his mother was a member of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in the
Royal Air Force. In 1946, Norman crossed the Atlantic with his mother on the Queen
Mary, eventually arriving in Hanover, VA. It was there that he grew up, graduating
from Patrick Henry High School in 1964.

Norman was a founding member of the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department and
served as Chief for a total of 14 years. After stepping down from over 30 years of
active service Norman remained involved in the fire department through his various
roles with fundraising, continuing in his role as the original Frog Level Brunswick
Stew Master.

Norman was self employed in the logging business as well as serving in many roles
with Flippo Lumber Corporation for over 40 years including Timber Procurement
Manager until his retirement in 2018.

An active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hanover Courthouse, Norman
served on its vestry several times.

Left to celebrate Norman’s memory are his wife of almost 58 years, Ann Haley Long;
children, Jessica Kovalcik (John), Corine Barber (Robby), Travis Long (Carmen);
grandchildren, Archer Knox (James), Haley Barber, Madison May (Wesley),
August Kovalcik; nieces, Lynn Cauthorne, Nora Cannon, B.J. Cannon; and nephew,
Jimmy Long. Norman also leaves behind many family members with whom he
connected over the years in the United Kingdom as well as a host of extended family
and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Nora Long; his brother, James
Long; his sister, Elizabeth Long; and his in laws Jesse and Ernestine Haley.

The family will receive friends at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home
on Friday, June 27th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday,
June 28th at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at Hanover Courthouse, with
interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. There will be a reception
following the service, in the Parish Hall.

Visitation & Funeral Service Information

The family will receive friends at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home

on Friday, June 27th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday,

June 28th at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at Hanover Courthouse, with

interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. There will be a reception

following the service, in the Parish Hall.
