Mary Freeman Clarke, age 92, passed away on December 7th 2018.  A lifelong resident of King George, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Wayland Clarke. Her daughter, Anna Clarke Sas (William), grandsons Nicholas and Aleksander, and granddog Nemo survive her.

Mary graduated from University of Mary Washington at age 19 and taught for 36 years, first at King George County Public Schools and then at Dahlgren School. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she maintained the altar for decades. Mary was a keen traveler following her family to Norway, China and Hawaii. Mary loved astronomy and was known for her identification of stars, planets and constellations.  She loved her wildflowers and dogwood trees, and made beautiful arrangements from mere twigs and sticks. Mary rescued cats, dogs, cows foxes, turkeys, deer, birds and even squirrels. She was dedicated to creatures without a voice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any animal welfare fund such as Dogs Playing for Life or King George SPCA, or any conservation entity. There will be a celebration of her life on January 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Church in King George, Virginia. www.storkefuneralhome.com
