Blanche T. McDonald, 91, of Ruther Glen, died Sat. Feb. 8, 2020. At Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab, Staunton. Born in Caroline County, she was the daughter of George T. and Theresa S. Gatewood. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Following her retirement from A & P. she loved and encouraged many children by babysitting them. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy DeSarno (Vince) and Jean Shugars (Mike); three sisters, Lucy Mayo, Marian Paytes and Ann Southworth; six grandchildren, Shawn Shugars, Vincent DeSarno, Jr., Jennifer Podgurski, Melissa Callison, Matthew DeSarno and Heather Weiseneder; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of special friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas, Robert, and Kenneth Gatewood and Francis E. Hemrick. The family will receive friends 11 am –noon on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Concord Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at noon at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shawn Shugars, Matthew DeSarno, Vincent DeSarno, Jr, Ben Callison, Nathan DeSarno and Andrew Callison.
