He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Watson Brown; his parents, Regina H Schockel Brown and Raymond P. Brown, Sr., his sister, Vivian Brown Smith. Ray was a Glassboro native, worked as a kid on the railroad loading freight cars and other jobs while young, played football for Glassboro High School. He left high school to join the U. S. Navy at the end of WWII, where he earned the Victory Medal for serving from 1946 through 1948. He married his first wife: Barbara and had seven children together. Known as a “jack-of-all-trades”, he worked as a truck driver, a rural postal employee in Hammonton and had many part-time jobs, including driving a taxicab. He was a barber in Glassboro and Woodbury, and he spent over 20 years as a lab technician, retiring as a Supervisor with Mobil Research in Paulsboro. After retiring he worked for Struthers Dunn in Pitman for a few years. He was known for riding his bicycle to work in Paulsboro from Pitman in all kinds of weather and rode for pleasure, as well. On his 65th. Birthday he rode his bicycle 65 miles to Sweetwater and back. He enjoyed his family/kids, boating, photography, motor cycle riding, cool cars and motorcycle races, Sweetwater and the Mullica River, his life in Pine Island, Florida with Barbara J. and his boats and retirement time there. In his final 20 years, he and his wife, Barbara J. were residents of Virginia where he continued to enjoy his bicycles, motorcycles and cars. He is survived by his second wife, Barbara J. Garton Brown; step-daughter; Lori Chapman (Lee); daughters; Rae Brown Clay (Edward), and Cheryl L. Rogers (Scott); sons; Lee Brown (Dawn), Curt Brown, Gary Brown (Kathleen), Terry Brown, (Denise) and James C. Brown; 14 grandchildren; 6 Step-grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; 9 Step Great Grandchildren; his Sister, Lorraine Brown Fassbender and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.storkefuneralhome.com.
