Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Josephine Ford. She was born on January 6, 1947 in Washington, DC. Dee is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gary; two daughters, Alyson K. Beverly and Tara A. Seeber; two grandsons, Delante A. Newman and Thomas W. Proffitt; two granddaughters, Alyssa Woodle (her husband Brad) and Kaitlyn E. Proffitt and one great grandson, Wyatt Woodle.
Dee loved to socialize with friends and family, tell stories, and cruise the ocean. Dee had a great love for history which began while living in Germany as a young child for three years and was greatly enhanced during her three years at Shepherd College in West Virginia prior to her marriage. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Maryland after Gary and herself moved to Rockville, Maryland.
Dee was an elementary school teacher in Rockville, Maryland prior to moving to Colonial Beach in 1981. Dee was very involved in the Town of Colonial Beach and the Colonial Beach School system; including nine years as a member of the Colonial Beach School Board. She was instrumental in helping fundraise and provided support for building the Colonial Beach High School in 1988. Dee was personally responsible for having Senator Chuck Robb be the keynote speaker at the high school dedication. Upon moving to Colonial Beach Dee became a Systems Analyst and Systems Engineer for different DOD support contractors in Dahlgren, Virginia and worked until 2003 supporting various Navy systems, including AEGIS facilities construction and fleet support.
Dee’s Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, July 13th at Colonial Beach Elementary School at 100 1st Street with the Reverend Christopher Whicker officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Colonial Beach Community Center at 717 Marshall Avenue. In Lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Dee Seeber Scholarship Fund, Care of Colonial Beach High School 100 First Street Colonial Beach, VA 22443 – Attention Judy Long
