Judy Whitt passed away peacefully in her sleep around 10:30 am on August 7, 2020 in the comfort of her residence, succumbing to her battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family in her final hours.

Judy was born on November 13, 1945 in Chatham, Virginia. She spent her childhood in Chatham helping her parents and nine siblings work their tobacco farm while attending Spring Garden School; she loved to play with her beloved doll, read mysteries, and dance. She met Bill Whitt while working at Dan River Mills and they were married on December 31, 1970. They settled in King George in 1973 and soon welcomed their daughter, Tiffany, into the world. Judy became a school bus driver when Tiffany began kindergarten and continued driving until retiring in 2017 after 39 years. She also worked in the high school cafeteria for a few years and joked that she had taught most of King George to drive via her behind-the-wheel class. Judy was an avid bowler and golfer, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter (Tiffany), son-in-law (Jeff), grandchildren (Katie and Jacob), and siblings (Willie, Faye, John, Suzy, Margo, Lewis). She was predeceased by her husband (Bill), parents (Annie Mae and Edward), and siblings (Audrey, Estelle, and Shirley).

Judy and Bill will be laid to rest together at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. An in-person service will be postponed until a later date.

Judy led a life full of many happy memories with all of you. We invite you to join us for a Celebration of her Life on August 15, 2020.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made via her tribute page at the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be left for the family in the guestbook above.
