Robert Lewis Gravatt, Jr., 95, of Caroline County, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2021. This day was also his beloved wife’s birthday, Doris S. Gravatt, whom he has been reunited with in Heaven. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Jane Tucker and his brother, Garland S. Gravatt Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Boyer (Dan), sons, Robert Gravatt III and Charles Gravatt (Deona), eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Robert Lewis was a graduate of Caroline High School and Virginia Tech (VPI). Upon graduation from college, he taught agriculture and coached at C.T. Smith High School. He also was the 1st insurance agent for Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Caroline County.  In 1956, he co-founded G&G Farm Service with his brother.  He was a farmer starting at the age of 12 and continued until his nineties. Throughout his life, Robert Lewis was also known for his garden and his appreciation for the outdoors & hunting with his dogs.  But most importantly, those who knew him will remember his strong faith & love for our Lord Jesus Christ, which was evident by his many years of ministry. Bowling Green Baptist Church was Robert Lewis’ childhood church. He served as their Sunday School Director for 26 years, a Brotherhood Director and Deacon. He served the Lord weekly for over 40 years in ministering to inmates in the Caroline and Hanover Jail Ministries. In his later years, he worshiped at Memorial Baptist Church in Port Royal, Virginia, where he was a deacon and taught Sunday School for 22 years. In 2017, he moved to Hanover Manor, an assisted living facility, where he participated in many hours of prayer, bible study and even taught bible study at the facility when needed.

The family would like to thank Hanover Manor for their kindness and excellent care, his caregiver, Charity, who ministered to him in his final days along with the many doctors and nurses, who cared for him with dignity and respect. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 17th from 2:00 – 4:00pm at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home. All current Covid-19 protocols will be followed. A funeral service will be Monday, January 18th at 11:00am at the funeral home. The children, grandchildren and nieces and nephew will participate inside the chapel and all others are welcome to watch it live on the funeral home’s Facebook page, “Remarkable Lives” or sit in their cars and listen to the service on their car radio. Immediately following, all are welcome to process, with the family, to Lakewood Cemetery for interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Baptist Church P.O.
