Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintIt is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Charles Kenneth (Kenny) Atwell of King George, Va. on April 2nd, 2021, at the age of 74 years. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with Leukemia and Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born to parents William and Annie Elizabeth Atwell on July 11th, 1946, in Colonial Beach, Virginia. Who preceded him in death as well as his brother William P. Atwell “Bill”. He is survived by brother George Marshall. Kenny graduated from Colonial Beach High School. He went on to do many amazing things with his full life including working with the Naval Surface Warfare Center for almost 40 years and earned several patents for his innovations. Once he retired from the Government, he followed his passion for gardening and helped start the Farmer’s market locally and sold produce for many years and supported the community.
He married Lana, the love of his life, in 1973, who survives him. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. Kenny is also survived by daughter Cher Murphy Boots (Jaime), son Chris Thompson (Brandi), as well as a host of grandchildren: Caitlin O’Loughlin, Cody-Chloe-Caleb Thompson, Skye Boots and step grandson Tristan Wendel as well as one great grandchild Oliver O’Loughlin.
In his spare time, Kenny enjoyed being outdoors gardening, boating, keeping meticulous care of his 50 peach trees and spending time with his family. He lived life to the fullest and had no regrets. He was known for having the best one liners and could light up a room with his smile. He lived a healthy life and loved his Zumba classes at the YMCA or walking around the farm. He made friends wherever he went and no one was a stranger.
A grave side service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in King George, Virginia. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
