Let us take a few moments to remember a family member that made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Michael was stern in his beliefs and did not mind letting it be known. If you spent only five minutes conversing with him, you would know that Michael was serious about life, what it meant to him, and should mean to everyone. Michael Montague was a man, a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a cousin and a friend. It is with joy that the life of a friend can be celebrated today and that memories can be captured. It is known that weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning!

Michael Tyrone Montague was born in Dutton, Virginia on July 17, 1961, to the late Ida E. (Willis) and late Hubert B. Montaque, Sr. He graduated from Mathews High School in 1979 and soon after received an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Rappahannock Community College. Michael continued his education and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Hampton Institute, which was later named Hampton University, in 1986.

Anyone who knew Michael was completely aware of his skills on the basketball court. While in high school Michael played both baseball and basketball for the Mathews Blue Devils. Michael loved to support his family, he could always be found on the sidelines or in the bleachers of any field or gymnasium; supporting, coaching, cheering, and yelling, at his family.

After college, Michael relocated to Arlington, Virginia with his friend Yelly, where he began his career with Sheet Metal Workers’ National Pension Fund as an associate of the IT staff. He later pursued a position in the billing department and went on to become a processor. Michael worked as Assistant Manager of the Billing and Eligibility Department until his retirement.

While working and living in Arlington, Michael met “Cool V” his “Boo” Vera Langford. Michael and Vera were united in holy matrimony on November 26, 1988 in Maryland. They soon started their family in Suitland, MD. On August 3, 1993 with joy they welcomed their first child Michael Tyrone Montage, II “aka Boogie Tyrone.” Five years later, on February 27, 1998, Michael and Vera welcomed their beautiful daughter Megan Briana Montague “aka MegPie.” In 2006 Michael, Vera, Mike, and Megan moved to their new home in King George, VA.

During cookouts and gatherings, we were all captured by his camera and treated to his vast collection and knowledge of music. A stranger? Who? Anyone who knew Michael, knew that he never met a stranger. His love for his friends meant so much to him. As evident by the many

phone calls we have received, Michael was always on his phone from the early hours of the morning to late at night. Even when Michael was not feeling well he was always caught joking, singing, laughing, or taking pictures. A child of God, a proud father, a father-figure, a friend at McDonald’s, a comedian, a family photographer, a karaoke singer, a self- learner are just a few ways to describe Michael.

Michael was surrounded by loved ones and was met at heaven’s gate by his parents on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:51 pm. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Hubert Montaque. He leaves behind his wife Vera Montague, son Michael T. Montague, II (Regina) of Glen Burnie, MD, his daughter Megan B. Montague of King George, VA. Brothers Charles Willis of Abbeville, LA , Bernard Willis (Sylvia) of Abbeville, LA, Hubert Montaque, Jr. (Towanda) of Mathews, VA, Roderick Montaque (Rana) of Williamsburg, VA, sisters Hope Montaque of Hampton, VA, Linda Burrell of Middlesex, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, special friends Michael Davis and Steve Harris and too many other family members to name.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their acts of kindness during Michael’s time of illness and passing. Your visits, texts, calls, flowers, food, and other gestures of kindness have been greatly appreciated.
