Betty Farmer Smith, 70, a lifelong Caroline County resident of Ruther Glen passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 in Richmond.

Her relationship with God began at a young age at her community Milford Presbyterian Church. Her fondest memories were walking to church for choir practice and Sunday services with her parents and siblings. As she grew in the church, she became a choir soloist and a Sunday School teacher.  Teaching God’s grace and love to the next generation was one of her greatest accomplishments.

Betty a graduate of Caroline High School, was the Meat and Deli Manager for Kidwell’s and Chisholms Supermarket in Bowling Green, Procurement Manager of Heilig-Meyers Furniture in Fredericksburg, VA and retired as an Office Manager for The Room Store Company in Fredericksburg.

Retirement afforded her time to bake and share her pecan, coconut, lemon chess pies, breads, and brownies at the Bowling Green and 639 Farmer’s Markets. Her dedication to the Children’s Shriners Hospital, UDC and Steven Johnson’s Syndrome Awareness Groups was where she could aid her community.  Music, art, fashion, family, friends, and God all raised and lifted her in this life.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil E. Smith; her daughters, Angela C. Smith and Pamela L. Smith; her brother, Davis “Dootsie” Farmer (Lee); her sister, Barbara F. Byrd; her nephews, Charles Byrd (Sandra) and their child, Charlee Marie, Bryan Farmer (Rachel) and their children, Christopher and Kelly and Kyle Farmer and his child, Caleb. She was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Davis Farmer; her mother, Lois J. Bryan and her sister, Brenda Horton. The family will receive friends at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 8th from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
