FRESHOUR, Kirk Brenton, 79, Chief Petty Officer USN-Ret, of Colonial Beach, Va., passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Mary Washington Hospital. 

Kirk is survived by his wife of 31 years, Judy; a brother, Lynn Freshour and his wife Alice, of Fredericksburg; his daughters: Kelly Williams of Garnett, Kansas; Danette Browne of Colonial Beach; Robin Levine and her husband Mark, of Suffolk; and Della Phillips of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; his son, Dennis Freshour and his wife Kathy, of Sand Lake, Michigan; his sister-in-law Cindy Hemrick and her husband Randy, of Kernersville, North Carolina, nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kirk is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd J. Freshour and Nina Alberta; his brothers: Vernon James Freshour and Otis Thomas Freshour; and his sister, Inez Louise Durham.

His fight with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage as he faced life challenges with a smile. Despite the battle, Kirk came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. 

Kirk knew at a very young age that he wanted to join the Navy, so at only 17 years old, he did just that. His naval career lasted 20 years. As a hull technician chief, he learned to become a master welder. Kirk completed several tours of Vietnam and received numerous commendations and medals. He served his country well and with such great honor. 

After retiring from the Navy in 1979, Kirk eventually settled in Virginia. He worked and retired from the Dowling Sign Company in Fredericksburg. Kirk lived with Judy in Colonial Beach for the last 30 years. 

Kirk loved to share his escapades of time spent in the Navy and tell his never-ending stream of dad jokes, which always assured a laugh from everyone in the room. In recent years, he loved to watch old war movies and westerns, along with an occasional documentary.

Kirk will be honored in a Celebration of Life from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, August 9, at Storke – King George, 11089 James Madison Pkwy. His final resting place will be a burial at sea with full military honors.
