Dolores A. Reed, 87, of Colonial Beach, VA, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Westmoreland Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Colonial Beach. She was born in Columbus Ohio to the late John Urban and Elizabeth Layer, Dolores enjoyed a long career as an insurance agent with Pepper Insurance Agency (23 years), retiring from McKenney Insurance in Colonial Beach after 16 years in 2007. She was devoted to her family and her community.

She loved the time she spent with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was anticipating the addition of a new great- grandchild in October. She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Dolores is survived by her five children, Steven S. Reed (Wanda), Sandra J. Griffin (Hayden), Merianne R. Bridges (Greg), Nancy R. Straughan (Joey), and Wallace H. Reed, Jr., (Dee Dee); 13 grandchildren, Christina Franks, Hayden Griffin, III, Julie Bowler, Joseph Straughan, Jr., Angela Newsted, Lisa Mitchell, Bruce Straughan, Gregory Bridges, Jr., Kenneth Griffin, Beverly Taylor, Stephanie Mitchell, Wallace H. Reed, III and Brenden Reed; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Wallace H. Reed, Sr.; her sister, Joann Barthelmas; and two grandsons, Steven S. Reed, Jr., and Michael L. Bridges.

A funeral mass will take place at 11 am Tuesday, August 24, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, Colonial Beach, led by Fr. Eric Shafer, followed by a burial in Historyland Memorial Park, King George. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, August 23, at Storke Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Visitation & Funeral Service Information

A funeral mass will take place at 11 am Tuesday, August 24, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, Colonial Beach, led by Fr. Eric Shafer, followed by a burial in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, August 23, at Storke Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.
