Dorothy M. Shockey (Dottie), 94, died on October 14, 2021 at her home.  She was the wife of Captain Daniel N. Shockey, US Navy Retired, of Caroline County, VA.  She was born on June 9, 1927 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Milton and Blanche Welch. Mrs. Shockey was involved in numerous county activities, including the Caroline Garden Club and Caroline Cancer Board, which she served as Memorial Chairman for many years.  She was a Caroline Election Official and volunteered for many years at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Richmond, VA.  She was also a member of The Commonwealth Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Daniel N. Shockey. She is survived by her son, Donald W. Shockey and his wife, Debbie of Mechanicsville, VA.; her daughter, Debra J. Canterbury and her husband, Larry of Spring, TX; 5 grandchildren; Kristen Bateman (Adam), Michelle Felock (Andrew), Michael Shockey, Danielle Tomak (Jeff), and Matthew Shockey; and 4 great grandchildren, Audrey, Jack, William, and Caroline. She was a member at St. Asaph’s Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, VA. A memorial service will take place at St. Asaph’s Church on Tuesday, November 2 at 11am.  Her burial will take place on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank her amazing caregivers as well as her hospice nurse who provided love and support to all during Dottie’s final days.
