The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Storke Funeral Home, King George. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Round Hill Baptist Church. A burial at the Quantico National Memorial Cemetery will take place July 8, 2024 at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Michael Clay Canaday, 86, of King George, VA passed away on June 22, 2024 with family by his side.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Dorothy.

Mike began his service to his country by joining the South Carolina National Guard at 17. He then served in the US Army reserves. After attending Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and graduating with Mechanical Engineering degrees, he was commissioned as a regular officer in the United States Marine Corps. Mike served during the Vietnam War.  He ended his active military service as a Captain at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island.  Mike then had a long and successful career as a mechanical engineer at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, White Oak, and later at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren.

Mike was a southern gentleman, a man of many talents and hobbies.  He was an accomplished machinist and woodworker, having learned these from his father.  He also enjoyed writing music, antique gunsmithing and design, family genealogy, drawing cartoons, model building, mathematics, physics, photography, and much more, but his greatest love was his family.

Mike is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kaz; sons, Michael (Andrea) and Kenneth (Rose); grandchildren, Matt, Andy (Krista), Harry (Meredith), Kelly, Katherine (Mark), and Michael; great-grandchildren, Maylea, Matilda, and Isaac. He will be missed by his many cousins, especially Carolyn and Ernest.
