Gary W. Corris, 74, of Bumpass, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.  He  succumbed to a hard-fought,  courageous, 2 ½ year battle from an extremely rare cancer.  After retiring from over 38 years as Research Scientist and Engineer with Schlumberger-Doll Research in Ridgefield, CT, he and Catherine moved, into the home he designed, in Lake Anna, Virginia.  Gary loved hunting, archery, fishing, and sharing all of these  activities with his wife.  He also loved caring for the beautiful flower gardens he planted that surrounded their home.  Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife Catherine Corris; their children John Corris of Milford, CT, Jennifer Lawlor of Bumpass, VA, Denise Corris of Beverly Hills, FL and Kathleen Cole of Newtown, CT; his sisters, Barbara Tabaka of Sandy Hook, CT., Beverly Cambras of Stratford, CT, and brother Theodore Corris of Las Vegas, NV; Five grandchildren, Brian Lawlor Jr., Taylor Lawlor, Sarah Corris, Rachel Cole, and Madilyn Cole.  He will be especially missed by his hunting buddy and close friend Chris Thomas, and so many wonderful friends he made during his journey of life. He was a dedicated husband and father, was passionate in everything he did, and was a friend to everyone.  Services were private, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  The family is grateful for all the support Gary received from the Head and Neck Cancer Program and Dr. Maura Gillison’s entire medical team at MD Anderson.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Designation Dr. Maura Gillison for Gary Corris, P.
