Lemuel Edward Garner (Jimmy) of King George passed away at home peacefully with his family by his side on July 3, 2023.

Jimmy, who is Jimmy? Well let’s answer that mystery!!!!! Where do you get Jimmy from the name Lemuel? The nickname Jimmy was given to him by his parents. His father wanted to call him “Jimbo” but his mother didn’t want the name “Bo” so they compromised to call him “Jimmy” from that day forward, he was called Jimmy!!!

Jimmy was born in La Plata, Maryland on July 15, 1946. In Maryland is where he lived before he served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. His time in the service was one of his proudest accomplishments. After serving in the military, he soon began his career at NSWC Dahlgren which brought him and his family to live in King George. He worked in Public Works as a sheet metal mechanic until 1999 when he retired at the age of 57.

Jimmy loved his family, and he was a loving husband. He cherished his wife more than life itself. Jimmy and his wife just celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Jimmy had many interests and hobbies. Those included watching and going to Nascar races, playing billiards, hunting and growing a garden. He was a long-time member of Machodoc Hunt Club of King George. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was spending time with family and friends. He was always up to hosting or accepting an invite to someone else’s house for a “get together”. A bushel of crabs, some cold beverages, and sharing the vegetables from his many gardens was something he loved to do.

Lastly Jimmy was a devoted catholic and belonged to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of King George.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elsie Garner.

He is survived by his wife of 50 Years Barbara; children, Stacey (Matt) of Montross, VA and Brad (Kristen) of King George, VA.; grandchildren, Harli, Victoria, Camdon, Keenan, Kourtney, Kenley (Clayton) and great-granddaughter Lilly; sisters, Rita and Norma. Lilly was surely a star in his eyes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, July 6 at Storke Funeral Home in King George. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday July 7, 2023 at St. Anthony’s. Interment will follow at Historyland Memorial Park.

The family requests all donations can be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital in lieu of flowers.
