Alice Rock Goolrick, 84, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, in Powhatan, Virginia at the home of her daughter, Lisa.  Born in King George, Alice began her career at a young age at the Free Lance Star, where she met, then married, one of the young, new reporters for the newspaper, John Goolrick. After her marriage, she moved to Fredericksburg where she resided for the next 60 years and always considered herself a “city girl” at heart. In 2019, she moved to Powhatan to live with her daughter, when she was no longer able to care for herself but never forgot her love of Fredericksburg.

She found joy (and a few jackpots) playing slot machines in Charles Town, West Virginia, she loved to go out to eat with her family and friends, and she could scroll through Facebook for hours enjoying the pictures and comments made by her many friends.

Her later years in Fredericksburg were happily spent at Madonna House in Fredericksburg where she was frequently seen pushing Tipper in a stroller around the building.  Most of all, however, she cherished her role of being a mother, grandma and great grandma.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Emma Rock; husband, John Cole Goolrick; and brother, Louis Rock.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Cole Goolrick Martin (JT Hopson); grandchildren, Corey John Martin (Nikki) and Cody Scott Martin (Madeline), great-grandchildren, Cole Jeffery Martin, Brooks Robert Martin, and Tyler John Martin; sister-in-law Arlene Rock, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Tipper. The family wishes to thank Carmen Gerena and Jessica Crenshaw for their kindness, caring and love as caregivers for “Miss Alice” and so appreciate the way they treated Tipper as a family member much to everyone’s delight.

Alice will be buried in the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in King George with funeral services held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Richmond Wildlife Center (Richmondwildlifecenter.org) or a favorite charity of your choice.
