Barbara Allen Stanley Skinner

July 25, 1934 - August 20, 2023

Family night will be held at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green on Thursday, August 24, 6-8 pm.  The funeral will be held at Round Oak Baptist Church at 11 am on Friday, August 25.  Pastor Trevor Brierly will officiate.

Barbara Allen Stanley Skinner, 89, of Woodford went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

The oldest of eight children born to George Harold Stanley, Sr. and Gracie Fugett Stanley Bowie, Barbara was a lifelong resident of Caroline County and grew up in the Guinea area.

Barbara is survived by her sons Robert Matthew Skinner and Wesley Allen Skinner and daughter-in-law Sharee Dishman Skinner.  Four sisters, Ethel (Sally) Hurlock, Gloria Golden (husband Jay), Juanita Rouse (husband Roger) and Frances Meadows survive her as well as her sister-in-law Joyce Skinner Martin. Barbara delighted in her 3 grandchildren: Whitley Allen Quick (husband Anthony), Melanee Kathryn Johnson (husband Tyler) and Robert Lewis Skinner. Six beloved great-grandchildren who called her Mamaw also survive her: Kathryn Cecelia Johnson, Zachary Curtis Johnson, Natalie Grace Johnson, Abigail Corrine Quick, Nicholas Shawn Allen Quick and Caroline Elizabeth Quick.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Skinner Jr., her oldest son Gordon Dunaway Skinner, two brothers George Harold Stanley, Jr. (Peter) and William Stanley, Sr. (Billy) and one sister Jean Henderson.

Barbara married Junior Skinner on September 19, 1952 after only six weeks of “courting.” They shared almost 54 years of marriage together. She joined Round Oak Baptist Church shortly after she married and served the Lord as a long-time Sunday School teacher and in many other ministries there.

Mamaw shared her passion for the Lord with her family one last time in her living room the Sunday before she met Jesus. She made sure we all knew that God was preparing her room in His mansion in Heaven and she expected us all to join her there one day. Her love for Jesus, her family, friends, neighbors and strangers shined through in every day that she lived.

Pallbearers will be Robert L. Skinner, Tony Quick, Tyler Johnson, Wayne Rouse, JJ Golden and Tommy Eubank.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Blanton, Ernie Young and Bob Dustin.  Family night will be held at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green on Thursday, August 24, 6-8 pm.  The funeral will be held at Round Oak Baptist Church at 11 am on Friday, August 25.  Pastor Trevor Brierly will officiate.
