She is survived by her children, Michael Meese and wife, Jeanie of Virginia Beach, VA; Mark Meese and wife, Kristy of Virginia Beach, VA; Greg Meese and wife, Wendy of Lynchburg, VA; Melissa (Meese) Frameli and husband, Tom of Virginia Beach, VA. Darlene lost a daughter, Martha Meese, to cancer.

Additionally, she will be missed by her grandchildren: Heather (Meese) Bruso and husband Jason of Greenbackville, VA; Amanda (Meese) Wood and husband Jeremy of Appomattox, VA; Hunter Frameli of Virginia Beach, VA; Becca Frameli of Virginia Beach, VA; Evan Meese of Lynchburg, VA; along with her sister, Donna McPartland of Littlestown, PA.

After graduating from Valley High School in Lonaconing, MD, she received her Nursing degree in Baltimore, MD. Upon completion of nurses training, she did her nursing residency in Cumberland, MD at Sacred Heart Hospital.

New Years Eve 1958 she married Harry and moved to West Virginia, while he attended West Virginia University.

Soon she became a Navy wife, and the adventure began by moving to Glynco, GA, while Harry attended naval flight training in Pensacola, FL, where their first child, Michael, was born.

The next move was to Hawaii, while Harry flew the Pacific Barrier being gone between 14 – 16 days at a time, while she stayed at home with their newborn. But soon a brother arrived for Michael; Mark was born.

The next trek in the adventure moved them back to the mainland, to California, where Greg was born. Three mischievous little ones to keep her extremely busy. But wait, there’s one more addition while in California. Martha came along.

They moved across country to the east coast, with 4 kids and a dog, with another child on the way, and with a two-week layover in Maryland, before settling in Virginia. Along came Melissa and for approximately 16 years was a homemaker; with challenges of being a Navy wife and raising 5 kids.

After which she took refresher courses and returned to nursing. After nursing 20 years in a private practice, she retired as having been the head nurse for a period of time. Finding retirement boring, she became a Virginia Beach Public School nurse for almost 20 years, before retiring again to move to King George, VA, where she became a substitute nurse for the King George Public Schools.

She and Harry officially retired together to enjoy friends and family and dote on the grandkids.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donation(s) and memorials in Darlene’s name to Heart, Diabetes or Cancer foundations of your choice.
