David A. Sams, 74 of Thonotosassa, Florida passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born on April 17, 1949 in Ohio, David was a proud United States Marine, receiving his Purple Heart while serving in the Vietnam War. He was a union truck driver, a Jeopardy mastermind, political debater, and professional poker player in his own mind.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Eagles, VFW, DAV, and Fraternal Order of the Moose Lodge. David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sams, father, Theodore J. Sams and brother, Roger L Sams. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jessie A. Sams; son David (Amy) Sams of Ohio; daughters Theresa (David) Custer of FL, Brandy (David) Rankin of Ohio, Carol (Charles) Bagwell of FL and Lisa Sams of Ohio; grandchildren, Jacob, Breanna, Zachary, Dustin (Jessica), Tyler, Makenna, Kaebreyn, Levi, Kolton, Kynsley, and Connor; Great- granddaughter, Avery; sisters, Brenda, Janet and Diana of Ohio and many special nieces, nephews, and family friends. David will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to veterans’ charities in his honor.
