David Matthew “Matt” Fortune, 51 of Alps, was welcomed home by the Lord and reunited with his parents Reuben and Jane Adeline Fortune, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Matt worked at Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority for many years on the specialty crew, Fort A.P. Hill for the grounds department and Richardson Logging and Farming which he enjoyed the most. In his spare time, he was a handyman working on various projects and especially enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends on his outdoor stove, “Ruth.” He also loved his dogs and hunting.   

He is survived by his siblings, Keith Fortune (Lelia), Michael Fortune (Beverly), James Larry Fortune, Diane Keeney (Randy), and Amy Delahanty (Mark); a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, as well as many cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Bon Secours Community Hospice House for the excellent care provided to Matt.

A private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Community Hospice House 1133 Old Bon Air Road, Richmond, VA 23235 or American Cancer Society.
