Garland Wayne Burchell

August 4, 1940 - November 8, 2023

Visitation will be held at Storke Funeral home on Thursday, November 16, from 5:30-7:30 p. m. with a followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM led by the Rev. Kathleen Price. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023 15 Potomac Baptist Church.

 

Garland Wayne Burchell, 83, of Bowling Green, passed peacefully on November 8, 2023, at Cardinal Village Memory Care where he had been a resident since August of 2022.  He was born in King George County and was a 1958 graduate of King George High School.  He worked for Safeway Stores for 30 years as a stock clerk, produce clerk, and produce manager.  He then worked for Storke Funeral Home and G. H. Watts Construction, but his real passion was farming.  He loved his cows and being in the woods.  He also coached his sons’ Little League teams and worked on the grounds crew for Caroline Little League.

He was predeceased by his parents, Forrest and Viola Burchell; a brother, Howard Burchell, and a sister, Marie Guy

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Davis Burchell; 2 daughters, Tracy Coates (Preston) and Susan Stewart (Tim) both of Fredericksburg; 2 sons, Allan Burchell (Jen) of Gainesville and Peyton Burchell (Liz) of Glen Allen; a sister, Emma Nichols (Nick) of Fredericksburg and a sister-in-law, Janice Burchell of King George; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Caroline Little League, P. O. Box 1179, Bowling Green, VA 22427 where he coached and helped keep the fields in shape, Ashland Little League, P. O. Box 870, Ashland, VA 23005 where three of his grandchildren play, or Hunters for the Hungry, P. O. Box 304, Big Island, VA 24526 in memory of his love for hunting and fishing.
