Harry Evan Meese, 84, retired in King George, VA, born in Westernport, MD, passed away Wednesday, the 6^th of April. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Darlene (Fazenbaker) Meese. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Michael Meese and wife, Jeanie of Virginia Beach, VA; Mark Meese and wife, Kristy of Virginia Beach, VA; Greg Meese and wife, Wendy of Lynchburg, VA; Melissa (Meese) Frameli and husband, Tom of Virginia Beach, VA. Harry lost a daughter, Martha Meese, to cancer.

Additionally, he will be missed by his grandchildren: Heather (Meese) Bruso and husband Jason of Greenbackville, VA; Amanda (Meese) Wood and husband Jeremy of Appomattox, VA; Hunter Frameli of Virginia Beach, VA; Becca Frameli of Virginia Beach, VA; Evan Meese of Lynchburg, VA; along with his brother, Charles Meese and wife, Carol of Buckhannon, WV.

After graduating from Valley High School in Lonaconing, MD, he received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University, upon which he joined the U.S. Navy, commissioned 3 March 1961.

Upon completion of Basic Training, Airborne CIC and Air Traffic Control Schools; his Naval Observer Wings replaced by Naval Flight Officer Wings of gold; he joined the fleet reporting to Airborne Early Warning Barrier Squadron Pacific (VW-2) as CIC Officer flying EC-121s.

His next duty station, COMFAIRSDIEGO (FACSFAC) (FAW-14) – he served as Air Defense Officer and Communications Department Head.

Reporting to VAW-126, as a plank owner of the squadron, he served as: Safety Officer, Admin Officer, Operations Officer and took over Executive Officer duties during a squadron transition. Flying again, in E-2As and E-2Bs.

After Fleet Anti Air Warfare at Naval Warfare Training Center, he was stationed aboard U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (CV-67) as the carriers CIC Officer.

His next assignment was VAW-123, The World Famous Screwtops. Reporting as Executive Officer to eventually take command of the squadron. The third NFO to ever be the Commanding Officer of a Navy squadron. Now flying E-2C/ARPS aircraft.

After attending the Naval War College in preparation of his next duty station, he reported to U.S.S. America (CV-66) as ships Navigator.

His last station was head of Navy Space Systems, Surveillance Branch, Pentagon. After which he retired with an illustrious career of 25 years, as a Captain of the United States Navy.

He stayed active in CIC/Anti Air Warfare Systems technology through working as a civilian contractor as an Engineer and Senior Analyst. Designing and improving these systems for implementation aboard ship and aircraft for another 20 years before retiring completely.

Memorial Service will be held from 3-4p on Friday, April 29 at Storke Funeral Home, King George Chapel.
