Jane Newton Mason, a beloved lifelong resident of King George, peacefully passed away on September 30, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born on September 22, 1930, to Charles Thornton Newton and Irma DeShazo Newton. Jane deeply cherished her identity as a King George resident, a connection she held dear since birth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, V. Elwood Mason; her sister, Garland “Toni” Grimes; and her grandson, Nicholas C. Mason (KIA Iraq 2004).

Jane is survived by her devoted children, Susan M. Jones, and her son, Charles V. Mason, and his wife, Christine V. Mason. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dallas B. Grimes, grandchildren Taylor Jones (Julie), Elliott Jones (Meredith), and Carley Mason, her niece Ellen Grimes, and nephews Charles Grimes (Cathy), Jeff Grimes, and Chris Grimes (Nancy).

In her earlier years, Jane worked for the telephone company, served as a secretary for the King George Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and was a sworn deputy for the King George Sheriff’s Office.

Jane found joy in the simple pleasures of life – an evening cocktail, the company of animals, the melodies of country music, and the timeless tunes of Elvis. Above all, she cherished her family and friends. Her infectious sense of humor, sharp wit, and fun-loving spirit endeared her to many, bringing light and laughter to all who knew her.
