Jean Marie Moore Graham, a devoted mother and grandmother, passionate historian, and beloved member of the King George community passed away peacefully at her home on the Potomac River in Virginia on August 2, 2023. She was 87 years old.

Jean was born January 8, 1936, in Washington D.C., arriving as the eldest daughter of George and Dorothy Moore. She spent her early years frolicking on her grandfather’s farm by the picturesque Machodoc Creek, a farm-tastic playground indeed! Jean attended both King George High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C.

In 1958, Jean tied the knot with Charles Graham and embarked on a 30-year journey as a stay-at-home mom, raising a family, and working her magic in the Prince George’s County Maryland School System. But wait, there’s more! Once her little ones could stand on their own, Jean decided to brush up on her talent and skills and earned an associate degree in Art. Talk about a masterpiece!

After retiring from the PG County school system, Jean returned to her roots in King George, where she became the star of the show at the King George Historical Society and immersed herself in the community’s rich history. She dedicated her time and talents to the King George County Museum & Research Center, leaving no gravestone unturned in her quest to preserve history. Jean even co-authored not one, but two books about King George County, truly leaving her unique mark on the pages of time. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she  was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy, showing that she had a revolutionary spirit and a rebel heart.

Surviving this  grand adventure of life, Jean leaves behind her dear sister, Peggy Moore Ray Daigle, and her three fabulous children: Ginger Lee Hill (Bill), Roy Graham (Cherlux), and Gena Lynn Bussink (John). Let’s not forget the six adored grandchildren who brought joy to her world: Valerie Jean Hill, Violet Mae Hill, Jonathan P. Graham, Jean Mina Graham, Georgia Lily Bussink, and Graham Lawson Bussink. She also leaves behind her sweet kitty, Annie and her devoted grand-dog, Daisy, as well as a cast of nieces and nephews who brought laughter and love to her stage. Previously departed loved ones include her husband, Charles, and Nancy Moore Adams Neumayer, her youngest sister.

In honor of Jean’s love for history and genealogy, her family kindly requests that donations can be made to the King George Museum & Research Center, or that individuals consider volunteering their time to the museum and keep the historical fire burning bright. Let’s make sure her legacy continues to shine!

As per Jean’s final request, the show will go on in a private ceremony, allowing her loved ones to share their memories and celebrate her life. Jean, may your next great adventure also be filled with much laughter and joy!
