John Mather Peters (Johnny), age 79, passed away Thursday February 20, 2020 at 12:18 am at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born August 7, 1940 in Chicago, IL to the late Godfrey and Louise Peters. Survived by his daughter Michelle Louise Hendricks, son in law Michael DePasquale, a brother Gary Martin Peters, sister Valarie Louise Peters, brother, Brian Alan Peters (Tinker), sister Judith Ellen Peters McCord, sister Margaret (Peggy) Olive Peters all deceased. John (Johnny) was a retired United States Navy and NASA veteran who gave over 30 years of combined service to his country. He was a three tour Vietnam veteran who received an award last year for his service. He was a true patriot. For the past year he was known for his smile and joy at The Poke Bar in Arlington, Virginia, where he greeted customers and made sure everyone enjoyed their experience while eating and patronizing the business. He loved telling stories of past experiences and his hobbies to all who listened. A big lover of food he enjoyed his favorite burger from Five Guys and his spaghetti and meatballs from Anthony’s Pizza and Pasta in Falls Church, Virginia, with his son in law on any given day. His smile, joy, laughter and service to his country will never be forgotten. Everyone will truly miss him. The Poke Bar will never be the same with him gone but we know his spirit will shine through every day. Family and friends are invited to Arlington Community Church, 6040 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, Virginia Thursday February 27th from 12:00 – 3:00pm for a viewing and visitation. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28th at 12:00pm in the church, with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall. Burial, with Navy Honors will take place later in Arlington National Cemetery. His online obituary will be updated when the date of the service has been assigned.
