A funeral service, conducted by Reverend Richard Headley, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 5001 Arcadia Road, Woodford, VA 22580. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service. Interment immediately following in the church cemetery.

 

John Thomas Carter, 93, of King George, VA passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born and raised in Cedon, Virginia on his family’s farm. Thomas worked in his parents’ store and sawmill. Graduated from C.T. Smith High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Army from 1950 – 1952, Nolde’s Bread Company, lastly ending his career at NSWC Dahlgren, retiring in 1988. He wed his first wife in 1950 and had 2 children, Charles and Darlene.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Daisy Carter; first wife, Cora Thelma Carter (1950 – 1961); second wife, Nannie Mae Carter (1970 – 2020); sisters, Sallie, Myrtle, Mary Dorothy Carter; and grandson, Matthew Carter.

Survived by his son, Charles Carter (Cheryl); his daughter, Darlene White (Bob); granddaughter, Rachael Foster (Scott); brothers, William Henry and Earl Carter; sister, Virginia Hart; four great-grandchildren Carter Foster, Madison Foster, Isaac Carter, and Elliott Carter; nephews, nieces, cousins; and step-children, Barbara Wisdom (Boyd), Mark Mallin (Alana), Gail Woodward (Woody), and Karen Jenkins.
