On Jamie’s Facebook page, nearly 300 people posted outstanding comments—all genuine and all sincere—about his dad, Macon Patteson, one of the best dads ever. He was a good husband to Nancy; she was a good wife to him. I hear he was a remarkable grandfather, too. I had known him for at least 62 years when he arrived from his safe school in Dahlgren aboard a school bus in which a certain Amazon girl routinely beat up new boys from Dahlgren to prove she was the toughest kid on the bus. He overcame the culture shock of this side of the county, blended in well, and excelled in all he did. He and I gave each other a hard time every chance we had—never letting up on each other. I'll never forget the friendship we had of working near each other on base, living near his family in Bayberry, going to all the baseball practices, baseball games, after-game meals, and carpooling, all of us getting thrown out of a baseball game in Louisa, rescuing my cat out of the top of a tree, cruising to Alaska in 2010 with him, Nancy, and the Elliott's, and so many other memories. This past November, I asked him for his military service record and photo to go on a Veterans display. As usual, he downplayed what he did but asked that I include his friend, Sonny Johnson. That’s the type of person he was. Still, I will give him a hard time when I see him again. May God provide comfort to his dear family.--Cindy

During our short time here on earth we interface with numerous people, many become our close friends, either through work, family, or local activities. I was blessed to have associated with Macon both at work and as a close friend. He was a special kind of person that I dearly loved as a brother and will miss him. He was a giving person, always enjoyed talking about the accomplishments of his son Jamie and grandson Jay. He was so proud of their success. He dearly loved his wife Nancy and worried about her health over the years. His word was his bond. He was kind and gentle but you better not question his integrity; he could get riled up quickly! We visited many times, travel together on golf trips, to the farm, family dining, and talked on the phone several times a week. I will surely miss Macon and so will his family and the community of King George.

Another great member of the team joins the heavenly huddle, and we are left with fondest memories of close games, and happy times with joking and hugging exchanged without hesitation. Macon was one of a kind and we we were so blessed to count him as our friend. He was so proud of Jamie and the rest of his family. You all are in our prayers.

I am sorry to learn that Macon has passed. I knew him for many years and had the pleasure of working with him in the King George Quarterback Club and the Dahlgren Rescue Squad. He was always friendly and never met a stranger. And he was always ready jump in and help when needed. My condolences to Nancy and Jamie. Rist In Peace Macon.
