Marie Allensworth Sapanara, 94, of Stafford County passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022.

Marie was born and raised in Rollins Fork, King George County and graduated in 1944 from King George High School. She worked in the waning days of World War II as a secretary at Dahlgren Naval Base, where she met her future husband Herbert (Bert) Sapanara, then a US Marine. The couple married on New Year’s Day, 1946. They moved to Emerson, New Jersey and spent 60 wonderful years together until Bert’s passing in 2006. She spent many years working as a bookkeeper at the Randall Law Office in Westwood, New Jersey. Marie was a cheerful, giving person who devoted herself to making life better for her extended family and many friends.

Survivors include her son John (Ginna) Sapanara; three grandsons, Timothy, James (Laura) and Daniel Sapanara; and two great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Hunter Sapanara. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, three sisters and two brothers. 

For anyone wishing to do so, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, 13457 Kings Highway, King George, Virginia 22485. She was married there 76 years ago and it always had a special place in her heart.

The family will receive friends from 2-4p on Thursday, May 5 at Storke Funeral Home, King George Chapel.  A memorial service will be held at 4p.  Burial in Hackensack, NJ will take place at a later date.
