Mary Smith Blanton

November 20, 1931 - December 31, 2020

Her funeral service will be held at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Charles Tillapaugh officiating.  Private graveside rites will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Mary Smith Blanton of Milford, Va., passed away at her home on Thursday, December 31, 2020.  The youngest of eight children of Floyd Stevens Smith, Sr. and Hilda Flagg Smith of Balty, Virginia, she was born November 20, 1931 and grew up on her family dairy farm.  She attended Madison College. She had a great entrepreneurial spirit and owned and operated many different businesses.  She was married to the late Lewis P. Blanton for sixty-two years.  They built their home on Rogers Clarke Blvd. in 1961.  She owned and operated Mattaponi House, an antique business.  She operated Blanton Sales and Service and along with her husband operated Blanton Farming and Hauling. She served on the Caroline Electoral Board for twenty-two years and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She is survived by a daughter, Scarlett Hill Blanton of Richmond, four grandchildren, Tara S. Bailey (Mario), Daniel Blanton Swisher, David W. Swisher, and Paige H. Haley, four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bailey, Kendall Bailey, Kaden Swisher, Kamden Swisher and one sister, Jocelyn S. Nuckols of West Palm Beach, Florida.  She was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret S. Blackley, Geraldine S. Beasley and Madeline S. Reynolds, three brothers, E. Hunter Smith, Millard Andrew Smith, Sr., Floyd Stevens Smith, Jr. and one niece Hilda S. McCoy.  She is survived by sixteen nieces and nephews and a devoted caregiver and friend for over fifty years, Myrtle Rock. She and her husband Lewis enjoyed many happy days of fun at their cottage at Colonial Beach where they entertained family and friends on their boat.  She loved her family and was very interested in genealogy and antiques.  She was a very kind, loyal and thoughtful person.
