Nancy Ayers Wade

March 23, 1947 - January 4, 2024

Nancy will be laid to rest with her husband, Tom (who passed away in 2021), at Arlington National Cemetery in the near future.

Nancy Ayers Wade was born on March 23, 1947. She was raised in a very full house in Hingham, MA, as one of ten children. As the only girl for many years, Nancy quickly became the “second mother” to her younger siblings. She attended UMass Boston where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. In 1970, on a trip to visit her brother in the Army in Germany, Nancy met the love of her life, Tom Wade, who was a good friend of her brother, Tommy Ayers. Tom and Nancy raised four wonderful children together. The highlight of Nancy’s life was living at Eastman in Grantham, NH with her husband, and raising her children there. She also had the opportunity to dabble in multiple careers including real estate agent, town selectman, presidential campaign staffer, and computer engineer. Nancy was athletic and loved to play tennis, hike, and, most of all, ski with her family (particularly at King Ridge in New London, NH). She and her husband, Tom, moved to Burke, VA in 2001 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Nancy, above all else, prided herself in her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by biological children Jacqueline Cooney, Virginia Barry, and Thomas Wade Jr., as well as her stepdaughter, Loretta Macey. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Cooney, Joseph Cooney, Elizabeth Cooney, Catherine Barry, Megan Barry, Colin Barry, Helena Wade, and Thomas Wade III. Nancy is additionally survived by brothers Donald Ayers, Ronald Ayers, Gerald Ayers, Edward Ayers, sister Kathleen D’Amico, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Tom (who passed away in 2021), at Arlington National Cemetery in the near future.
